miles davis at king tubby:in the high altar of dub

hi folks
while discussing with that friend about "jamdown image of africa"another subject crops about miles davis obscure recording sessions at king tubby's;which is to me remains a mmystery.a friend told me that it's asenegalese friend also a a jazz devotee who told him about the existence of this record he said he had once owned but lost during one of his many removals.
who can confirm the existence of such a recording.i know many western mainstream artists recorded in some way or another in jamaica sessions unbeknown of the general public,recordings that will probably never see the light of day.

As far as I know he never did.. It would have been re-released many times I guess (probably with 'Miles Davis meets Tubby' plastered all over the record..)

However I do know there's 1 Japanese record from the late 80s (from the band Mute Beat ) that contains 2 genuine Tubby mixes (mixed at tuff gong.. )

even if this would exist I would doubt if its real... either it really is King Tubby but Miles Davis is fake or the other way around.

I think the »existence« of this album stems from an article (of whom the authors name escapes me right now) where the author mentions this album in the mix with some other albums that _do_ exist . I never understood why he threw in a bogus album among the real ones.

Still, Tubby was a major fan of jazz and I can imagine that he played around with his jazz LP's just for fun. But a Miles album ... no. I'm almost 100% sure it does not exist.

2 by LEE PERRY and BULWACKIE at WACKIES N.J.
and 3 by KING TUBBY & FATMAN at TUFF GONG J.A.
Released in 1989,
which must make it one of the last things KING TUBBY did before his passing.



MUTE BEAT was Trumpet player KAZUFUMI KODAMA aka ECHOE
who is the elder statesman of Reggae in Japan
and still performs and records today under the name of DUB STATION.

The original line up also included GOTA YASHIKI who went on to much success as the drummer for SIMPLY RED and as a Producer and Solo artist in the U.K.

I saw MUTE BEAT perform at a club called INK STICK in Tokyo in 1988,
I still have the special edition cassette which came in a cigar box with newspaper clippings and some postcards drawn by KODAMA.

All of their albums are available and have been recently re-issued in replica LP jackets.

The Mute Beat album Still Echo has magic moments. A tuff mix for every roots lover who´s also a bit into jazz.
Very spacial, cool and calm. Love it.

i have never heard from this band"mute beat".but i never say never my friends.no sooner than last forthnight i came across a piece by japanese saxophone player sadao watanabe who recorded a reggae piece with mickey boo and chinna and other reknown ja session players from the 70's.i could have never imagined that sadao did record reggae with reggae artists.i was also amazedto learn that serge gainsbourg was not the first french who recorded reggae in ja.the friend said he took it from another senegalese friend who is not much of a reggae fan but who said he has owned and lost this record.what can i say about it?
anyway time will tell
