Gregory Isaacs All I Have IS Love Lp on JA Micron

Post by jordandance »

Is the extra tune on this Bend Down Low? It credits 11 tunes on the back (one of which is Bend DOwn Low) but has 6 tunes a side (and, not it's not a double A or B side pressing). This is confusing

Actually Micron was a label established in JA in the mid-70s by Ronnie Burke and a partner (whose name I forget now, but IIRC correctly, it was "Michael _____"....get it? "Mic" + "Ron" = "Micron".

Pete Weston was also involved with the label, and moved to Canada in 1977. He opened a store, and continued releasing records while in Toronto on the Micron label.

He re-released some titles (e.g. Jr Byles "Jordan" LP) but most of his stuff was either a local production, or liscensed from Bunny Lee. He also managed Leroy Sibbles for quite a few years, and put out a few LPS of his, such as "Now" and "On Top", both which are worth finding.

Roots, do you know who wrote the liner notes? I don't have this release (it's still on the list though......)?

I wouldn't trust that compilation...

I've heard the interview with Pete Weston is fake and Pete Weston haven't given a permission to "Pressure Sounds" to release this compilation.

Not with these colourS on the label. Usually yellow with black writing or black with red writing/symbol were the Canadian presses.

Likely the first pressing before it left the island for the Uk (Trojan) and Canada (Abraham).

Weston released this title and "Extra Classic" on Micron Canada in the late 70's, and they were on yellow and black and red and black labels respectively.

The "Abraham" version wasn't released until very recently. It wasn't the first Canadian pressing of the title, and it's legitimacy should be questioned.
