It would have been cool to hear Miles Davis or some other classic jazz cat try on reggae though.

Doubting Stevie Wonder's musicality is not a good look. Bet he'd do a great job.
I don't think there's any danger of underestimating Stevie Wonder's current output. He did say "nowadays" Stevie Wonder, which is not really doubting his musicality so much as acknowledging that he's been pretty dry for the last quarter century or so. Speaking of which, isn't 'good look' a phrase that's ready to go away as well?

probably blasphemy but has anyone heard the new linval thompson LP?

a couple of nice tracks on there but whoa some real stinkers too esp when he usurps lyrics from old songs (mari guana, anyone?) and sings them in a tuneless manner over some insipid riddim.

nice track with warrior king though.

one love

My vote goes to Eclipse by Edi Fitzroy. All songs sound the same - dibby-dibby digital style - and then at the end he does a cover of "Hotel California". Awful fe true.

~The Miles Davis album, where he incorporates some Reggae rhythms into his musical pot of stew, is "We Want Miles". The album was released in 1982 but it is a live recording from 3 dates in 1981.

~The two songs on it that have Reggae in them are "My Man's Gone Now" & "Kix". Both are from June 27th, 1981 at the Kix Club, Boston, USA. This makes it about a month & a half after Bob Marley passed away. On both songs, he starts with a Reggae beat that'll soon mutate into a Jazz beat that'll soon morph back into the Reggae beat that'll soon transform into a funk beat that'll soon return to the original Reggae beat & so on & so on. Apparently after the Gershwin tune (My Man's Gone Now), he told somebody that it was in honor of Bob Marley's passing.

~"Kix" has a more full Reggae band feel with 2-3 types of Jazz in it. "My Man's Gone Now" has Reggae elements blended in with Funk & a coupla types of Jazz thrown it. It has a one-drop drum line matched with a Funk/Reggae bass line in the Reggae sections, but never a guitar skank. "Kix" has the Reggae drum beat, the Reggae bassline, the Reggae guitar skank & some Reggae congas.

~Lastly, the link to Elton John doing a Reggae version of "Young, Gifted & Black" in 1969/70, displays a version of the album that doesn't have that song on it. Here's the one that does have it: http://www.amazon.com/Chartbusters-Lege ... 568&sr=1-6

~Elton John, or I should say, Reginald Kenneth Dwight also does a Reggae version of "Love Of The Common People" on that album as well.

~How does one edit one's own post? It's not giving me an option.

~Enjoy!
