Re: How did you discover Reggae?
My neighbour washed his old french car and was listening to a reggae mix tape. A lot of Black Ark stuff, some I-Roy, U-Roy, Jazzbo, Bob, Spaer, Culture, Dennis Brown,...
The music really got me. Was 8 or 9 years old. I loved it that much that I wanted more and more.
Used to listen to some rock before which was nothing compared to reggae.
I´m a little older now
:)and the love for reggae music ist still there and I´m really happy with it.
One Love!

My sister brought me a pre-island wailers cd from the library when I was 14. It really changed me.

Re: How did you discover Reggae?
The environment in inner London in the 1970`s reggae was all around. Sound Systems playing in the streets in the summer, pirate radio. Walking down the street and hearing reggae music playing out of peoples houses. And the Notting Hill Carnival.

Re: How did you discover Reggae?
well,
i had been listening to lots of classic rock records that i was "handed down" from my mom and brother...dead, who, stones, traffic, beatles, etc...
then sometime in 81 or 82 i got turned on to some black uhuru. and i liked it!
i heard some bob, uhuru, etc here and there and liked it. bought my first reggae record in 83, a new copy of legalize it.
then sometime around 85 i was outside of a party, in my friend's car, smoking, and he put on this on-u-sound dub tape. that was it- i was done for. a few days later i was enjoying my new purchases "african anthem" and "cry tuff dub vol 1."
i have never been the same since.
and i like it that way.
love up!
