Re: Jackie Edwards
Great man. Lets not forget that he wrote two big hits for the Spencer Davis Group in the 60s - Keep On Running and Somebody Help Me. Remained a pleasant and humble man as you will see in the footage of him in his older years in the DVD Deep Roots Music 2.
My favourites by him are "I'm A Peaceful Man" which was versioned into a brilliant dub cut and "this Is Another Festival".
Regards

Re: Jackie Edwards
Agreed Rob, a true giant imho.
Of all the 'balladeers' I rate him among the very, very best. He had immaculate vocal stylings that matched every style from soul to roots.
Some recommendations for starters
[cover=3635,3835]
A wonderful compilation on almost all the great tracks of his career.
[cover=3290,3540]
A 70's classic with Jackie riding smoothly on all these great riddims.
[cover=7984,4436]
Even as an elder statesman he won on these 'modern' dancehall riddims. Title track is wicked, 'Sexy Sandy' is pure heartaches, great sounds.

Hi fadel,
yes 'African Language' is one of my personal favourites of him, a brilliant recording done by Harry J. Sadly it's missing in RA. And I also dig 'Tell me Darling' on Imperial, just like 'Do you believe in Love'on KLIK or 'In Paradice' on Carl's.
[cover=2044,2413][cover=6746,4713]
For sure, Jackie Edwards' styles are affording some time by strictly-roots-lovers, but Reggae is a wide field with many treasures to be discovered and by getting older with the music you are going to like more soul than rock anyway

hi bellyman
in fact all the hits that were culled for"this is my story" from the early london years to the early 80's via bunny lee and harryj are great.he is really the best among the greatest balladeers and crooners that jamaica ever produced.the thing is how he is at home with any crooner that the us ever produced be it nat king cole,sam cooke or whosoever,mostly nat king cole."come closer to me" my god.this song is driving me crazy as well"if i had this world" and"cloack on the wall"(what a thought-provoking song) and"i must be strong".in"african language".so sad he left us so early.one of the real unsung heroes of jamaican music
