Essential Ariwa recordings

Post by Jonti »

I'm just dipping into Mad Professor's Ariwa label for the first time and I'm looking for recommended 12"s and LPs. All I've got at the minute is a Wild Bunch 12" and the Mellow/St Quentin 12" taken from 1988's Experiments Of The Aural Kind LP.

What next?

I don't know a lot of Ariwa stuff, but Dub Me Crazy vol.1 is essential

Johnny Clarke's "Yard Style" and "Give Thanks" are among the best LP's from the label.

Sgt. Pepper "Judgement Day" is a KILLER. The best album ever produced and mixed by the great Mad Professor IMHO, also released in his own Ariwa label.

You should also check Alan King Pin's album "Letter From Jail", wich is a very strong set from 1990 and has the classic soundsystem tune "Little Jimmy".

These are the ones I have and I know they are all great stuff to start with. I don't seem to remember of any 12" from ARIWA label in my collection, but i'll check it out.

Blessings,

Forgot to add that Mother Nature's "A Breath Of Fresh Air" is a quite good dub/instrumental album.
