:) Anyone who wants to read The Copyright Law Of The United States Of America is gonna need help ploughing through it, and you thought books were long.
U.S. Copyright Office - Copyright Law Chapter 1
http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.html
And that`s just chapter 1 with 22 parts.

The news of pirate bay (Swedish run download site) being found guilty on a lesser charge of "assisting making available copyrighted content" £2.4m compensation and were forced to drop the higher charge of "assisting copyright infringement" £9.1m compensation because of incompetence by the lawyers.

It`s funny because pirate bays website is still up and running. What a load of incompetence!! & incompetent lawyers!!

"who is alive and well, has no accesss to his own collections and has a hard time getting info"....
.
Sounds unfair but that's how it basically works in the music industry. Michael Jackson for example owned the copyrights of over 200 Beatles/John Lennon songs...
A family member of mine bought the copyrights of all Earth Wind and Fire songs +- 1 year ago....
.
He probably made 'bad/wrong' deals in the past with producers..
.
@stepping razor. This has nothing to do with lawyers, nor incompetent lawyers. It's an act of the government...

RASpect due to everyone who responded to my initial post..This just shows how intelligent and passionate the Roots-Archives members are about the muzik & the culture.
I'm sitting here in San Diego,CA and I can def say San Diego is the ROOTS Capital of America;..hands down!!
To bring an artist such as Horace Martin and to see the venue rammed is a testament to that.
What is going to be a continual problem within the Reggae Muzik industry (piracy, non-payment of royalties, etc.) can be combated by getting these artists to your towns, making their time in your area comfortable as possible, and not writing checks your mouth can't cash (meaning don't promise the artists anything you are not going to come thru with)..This will insure that the efforts put forth in putting together a GREAT show will not be in vain..
Maximum Luv to all progressive people within this forum for I know that each and everyone of us have strengthened Reggae Muzik in some fashion or another!

What`s so funny is that people go on about bit rates 128 bps which is not as good as 156 bps. The point is it don`t matter. I could just put an output line out of the speaker and record it in real time on a format (not cds) and there you have it in analogue on a digital format. Once you keep it on the computer it`s all bps compression. Back to basics. To many promoters promoting what is not theirs. no wonder the music industry has gone bankrupt.

You made a good statement Reuben, the way to fight "part" of this is by bringing down the artist to perform at a city. I noticed our hometown SD has been the place where many good reggae artist have been performing lately, and boy do these concerts get full and most importantly, enJOYable! I definately prefer spending my money on a concert than downloading mp3 tracks because i am sure the artist will get paid for his job...By the way Reuben, when is Jah Shaka coming to SD, it's a must!
