Mohammed I and the I & I sound
Now what a strange album this is; Really between genius and disaster; I can't yet decide. Late 80's or early 90's release, this is a mix between Prince and Jr Murvin over digital funky reggae disco. So strrrrrrange; Anyone want to share thoughts on this non r-a release?

Paris Treantefeles who produced it is still active in music but working as a live graphic artist mainly for chiptune music. He's the greatest guy!
The Mohamed I album is certainly not genius I'd say. This is mainly to the rather weak productions. As a singer I think he has patterned his style a lot on Slim Smith and probably Cornell Campbell too.
There's a wicked dubplate of him where he sings over the rumours-rhythm and is followed by the deejay/enginer King Barney (also known as Barnabas). Would have loved to hear Mohamed I over more conventional roots or contemporary dancehall productions. That could have been a great album.

ya mon. mohammed i was such a perfectionist that he did that record three times. the first time was well dread. after that it was like he ago comb it's hair until it lost the vibez it had in the first versions.
he was a genius, he just overproduced his record. i know, i was there.
the dubplate that had king barney on rumours-rhythm was wicked. barnabas was barnabas collins from studio one fame. he was sly dunbars #1 understudy. i was in studio when he played drums and it was as if sly was in the room...but i digress.
