I gotta say that i love many of ska tunes Byron & Dragonaires did. They were a superb backing band! Unfortunately they went pop more and more producing heaps of awful records. But here and there you'll find gems showing that they were able to play excellent music.. Lets start with some all time classics every serious ska lover must have:
Eric "Monty" Morris - Sammy Dead
Eric "Monty" Morris - Oil In My Lamp
Byron Lee & Dragonaires - Jamaica Ska
The Blues Busters - I Don't Know
The Blues Busters - I Won't Let You Go
The Blues Busters - Soon You'll Be Gone
If this stuff doesn't make you want to dance you're probably dead.

Further into the reggae times, Nilo's assesment still applies. The Reggay Blast-Off album has been recommended. Produced Andy Capp (Pop-a-Top), it's listenable through, except the inclusion of Elizabethan Reggae is a bit soft.=Nilo82= wrote:I gotta say that i love many of ska tunes Byron & Dragonaires did. My top Dragonaires track is Fattie Bum-Bum from a circa 1976 disco / calypso / soca / reggae / rock / soul / ska album called Dancing is Forever.
