Was it Charley Pride or his money people that went after Joe Gibbs?

Because Charley seems like a stand up guy. This year a woman was scammed by Ticketmaster into paying hundreds of dollars for tickets to his show. When Charley found out, he flew out to meet her personally and reimbursed all her money out of his own pocket and also presented a set of front row tickets to the show.

why would charlie pride going after some copyright infringer make him a NOT stand up guy?

AKAIK Charley Pride didn't write it, and he didn't sue either ( it was the publishing company, representing the composer )
Did they contact Mr Gibbs before sueing him? I'm pretty sure they did (usual procedure)

I've been thru this a few times before, this is how I see it:
Would I sue if somebody release one of my compositions without crediting the composer?
You bet! ( if I can afford to sue, of course). I don't care if you are from the third world, the first world or extraterrestial.

Is very simple, if you cover somebody's composition: credit them. That's what I do.
Nothing to do with modern capitalism or corporations. Is simply the right thing to do. Is fair IMO.
If anybody considers my compositions worth to be recorded and distributed...please, by all means! Absolutely chuffed. But, don't put your name as composer!

Still not clear as to how Joe Gibbs 'lost everything'. How much was the award in the court case? Did the rest of his musical assets go toward the legal fees?

Copyright and ownership fair enough - let every man get their rightful share, but it's a shame a great cultural institution had to go down in the process. I don't think Charley Pride would have wanted that result.

Maybe the whole experience put off Joe Gibbs so much that he had to step away from the music.


Any opinions on the June Lodge album of the same name?

So now this makes at least three of us who enjoy the tune , I like the extended 12" version as well with Prince Mohammed.... Don't know why som'a dem jus say "it's a crap tune...???"
