Keith Hudson & Yabby You. Non availability??

Post by mattp »

Morning all
First time post, so apologies if this has already been discussed.
Can someone please explain why several classic albums by Mr Hudson & Mr Jackson are just not available?? Specifically: 'Entering The Dragon', 'Torch Of Freedom' & 'Furnace' by Keith; 'African Queen' & 'Jah Jah Way' by Yabby. They go for crazy money on eBay etc (& I'm not a rich man) so the demand is there, somebody must own the rights to these albums, please make them available!! I realise this could apply to countless 70's albums but these are my current obsessions!
Peace.

there are so many lps besides the ones you speak of that go for high dollar on ebay but i think the people paying high dollar want the original not repress.

I can just tell you that Yabby's "Jah Jah Way" is not worth the money IMO. Millions miles far from yabby's best tune. I was told that African Queen is also far from the best material from Yabby.

Otherwise regarding Mr Hudson I think that the comps "Shades Of Hudson" (VP) & "Studio Kinda Cloudy" (trojan) collects tunes from this early efforts your mention... Don't have the "The Hudson Affair" which have many overlaps with the other Trojan set but seems to be far more complete...

African Queen is a truly great album! However it was, from what I've understood, a bootleg. So Clappers never released with proper rights ... which makes it quite hard to get it re-released since I think you'll have to go through both Liston at Clappers Records and Yabby to get a record released that they both didn't come to agreement with in releasing.

On the recent releases of Keith Hudson's material you won't find any track from the mentioned albums.

David Katz has some connection to Clappers and has put out some of the stuff on his Auralux label, maybe he can arrange something for the release of 'African Queen' if Yabby You finally will see some money for it.

That's kinda what I was getting at - as far as I know the albums I mentioned haven't been reissued at all - & they should be!! If people want to pay £60+ for original copies that's cool, but a reissue would do fine for me (pref vinyl but cd would be ok) I just want the tunes! & a proper reissue means the right people get paid...

incidentally, does anyone know why the pressure sounds reissue of Hudson's Brand got deleted? another great album that should be available...
