greetings r.a. massive
I am wondering about King tubby's Studio
I was listening "Two big bull..." and started to wonder where the band recordings took set but it only says "King Tubbys Studio" so I look up the archives and got this:
http://www.roots-archives.com/studio/6
I see studio one records mentioned (probably mixing) so i wonder wich recordings of rhythms actually did happen at tubbys? I am not talking about the firehouse digital stuff. only the band music.

anyway,
in this case:
http://www.roots-archives.com/release/3255
there is clearly stated that the music track was recorded at channel one and vocals at king tubbys.
but this one says tubbys only:
http://www.roots-archives.com/release/4609
is there any place on web i could see some pictures of tubbys studio?

I read recently in the liner notes to something that Tubby's studio was only a small room with a mixing desk and booth in the corner to record voice.

The 'Deep Roots' documentary has some footage of voicing at tubby's I think, in his little booth.

Re: King Tubby's
Tubby's studio was a house on Drumlie Ave. His board was in the front part of the house, and there was a room about 10 yards from the mixing board that was used for vocals, or instrumental overdubs. It was big enough to get a few people in it, so it is conceivable that tracks could be laid there. As Well Charge says, you can see this voicing room in "Deep Roots" where Jackie Edwards, and Wayne Smith do vocal overdubs.Funky Punk wrote:I read recently in the liner notes to something that Tubby's studio was only a small room with a mixing desk and booth in the corner to record voice.
The back part of the house was his electrical shop, where his apprentices fixed applicances, and other devices. When I used to visit, Tubby's was more concerned and focused on the day-to-day electronics part of the business, as by then, his studio wasn't so active....people wanted to use newer technology, and because of the (dangerous) location, right by a political border, a lot of people stopped going there in the run up to the 1980 election.
His backyard is where his new multi-track studio was being built, but of course then tragedy struck....

Re: King Tubby's
blessed.
i already thought to have seen that small room on a video before i got to deal with tubby now. thatswhy it made me wonder how a whole band should have fit in that litle room. Could it be still that "Two bull in a one pen" rhythm tracks were recorded at channel one?

Re: King Tubby's
Ive read in several places that onyl mixing and voicing was done at tubbys, and most of the music came from studio one. Does anyone know if instrumental versions were recorded at tubbys? Like with (for example) tommy mccook?

Re: King Tubby's
No bands recorded at Tubbys, ever.
Only voicing and overdubs.
