Known issue with Cornell Campbell LP?

Post by Ranking S »

Hi reggae gurus,

Just got my hands on a Cornell Campbell LP "Money". I just payed 10 $
for it in mint condition but helas....it sounds kind a strange...judge for
yourself.

http://www.zshare.net/audio/61538674a8b281ed/

My questiona are - is it a known issue? Is it a bad pressing
or could it be the mix itself? What should I look after if I ran
into another copy of this superb record?

Thanks,

Yes Ranking S, mine sounds exact the same.
A shame, cause there are some really good tunes on that release.
Matrix on mine is LLLP 005, contrary to the one listed here on RA the label is not coloured.
I'd really like to know if there's a decent sounding press..

Thanks Nilo,

Well, it's not much of a comfort to know I'm not alone....but at least
I know it's not a bad copy I got. I've got the same matrix and if I'm not
wrong the black and white label is because it's a reissue. Would be interesting
to know how the other pressings sound?

The matrix # for al;l live and learn represses are the same as the originals. It is not just your copy that is bunk, all of The 1990's repress (on the black and white live and learn label)of the Cornell Campbell LP are messed up. The original on the colored label is an excellent press. I remember listening to the repress and wondering if my hearing is going bad or something. All of the other live and learn albums that were repressed came out just fine, but for some reason, this one sounds like the volume is coming in and out -bad remastering? You can count on the original press to sound just fine - if you can get your hands on one! aDam

Thanks Adam,

Just what I needed to know - guess I'll add the $ I spent on this copy to the total when the right occasion arises to buy the original - cause I really love the record! Actually I really love all Delroy Wright / Junjo productions from this era - thought I only was missing Barrington Levy's "teach me culture" but apparently there's this Cornell Campbell as well.....

Bless
