there are a number of pieces worth getting in addition to those already mentioned (do nothing else if you haven't gotten the Observation Station comp yet, essential):

http://www.roots-archives.com/release/565

-- wicked dub set that includes a ton of great tubby's b-sides. not a lot of info included, but the music makes up for it.

http://www.roots-archives.com/release/416

-- all dennis brown niney productions, and all wicked. his best, most classic material (IMO)

http://www.roots-archives.com/release/425

-- the first cd on this release is the classic "dubbing with the observer" lp, one of the first and best niney dub albums. the second cd contains v. nice bunny lee produced, king tubby mixed b-sides.

http://www.roots-archives.com/release/959

-- has some overlap with other releases but has some tunes not found elsewhere

http://www.roots-archives.com/release/463

-- best of the best of niney's dj output from the 70s. wicked through and through.

http://www.roots-archives.com/release/2012

-- one of the first (the first?) niney comps and still one of the best (vinyl only, and probably out of print).

Any rock stones stuff is wicked... Would add to all those "Give a helping hand" by Dennis Brown, Jah Fire by Niney, Iman an african by Max Romeo (as son of selassie)....

thanks hot milk, i got Dennis Brown - Some Like it Hot based on your recommendation, and I totally agree his best work is on here. his other albums haven't impressed me too much, aside from a few songs here and there, but this collection is killer all the way through.

That's on VP and it's really great. A few songs I can't say I care for, but I love the rest. So, it depends on how much is duplicated. What is the anthology you refer to? Maybe this one: http://www.roots-archives.com/release/4112

I've been sort of impatient with that, unable to hear it properly, but I'd say it's mixed.

Yes, though *Blood & Fire 1971-1972* is quite close to that.

So, my favourites are the two I mentioned already, *Sufferation*, *Bring The Couchie*, and this: http://www.roots-archives.com/release/3941

I don't really like Delroy Wilson on that live set, but Dennis Brown and Big Youth are amazing. And so is the audience. Alexander Portious is new to me, and I liked his bit also. Anyone familiar with his music?

I'm listening to that one now.

'Ital Correction' - is Niney really whispering 'toenail!' 'toenail!' 'toenail!' 'toenail!' at the beginning of that?
