It's going back a bit but my hip hop heroes were/are Schoolly D, Kurtis Blow, Big Daddy Kane, Chuck D, Q-Tip, Rakim - and probably a few more.

As a youth I always had a soft spot for Ice-T. Intelligent style and a quite sophisticated agenda under that gangster rap persona. But I rarely touch my hiphop records nowadays ... it was the perfect music for my childhood days but not anymore.
However if I happen to put on a hiphop album nowadays it tends to be by rappers such as Boots Riley (forward with socialism!), Poor Righteous Teachers and the early Wu-Tang. I also enjoy the majestic vocal style of Jeru the Damajah. Sometimes also the chaotic sounds of Public Enemy & Hijack find favour in my quarters.
The first album I ever bought was Ice-T's Power (this was in 1991). What a great album it was (and still is)!

this is off topic, that means it doesn't belong to the reggae forum..and by the way try to keep open minded and let people have their own taste in music
