Themed albums

Post by mlonyeni »

Reggae albums with a theme, which one (or two) is your favourite.

My favourite would be "Kung Fu Meets The Dragon" by The Upsetters, also one of the coolest cover arts ever made.

Just as an aside, you know that this thread is going to get swamped by Scientist fans... :D

I've been listening to Scientist's 'Heavyweight Dub Champion' a lot recently. Most of his early 80s theme albums are excellent but that one is my current fave...

Fat Man Riddim - Tough Guys in Dub

The songs I've head from it have all been killer!

Eastwood Rides Again - The Upsetters

I wonder what themes they would come up with today if they were still producing stuff?

'Scientist Meets Harry Potter in Dub Conference'
or
'King Tubby Vs Magneto'

Heh, he would so have done a Doom or Mortal Kombat-themed album in the 90s.

BMW - Survival (well, is it a theme album?)
I find it hard to define whether an album is a theme album or not (Rock'n'groove by Bunny Wailer: theme album? think so, but still...) - the most strongly 'themed' album I know would be 'Psalms for I' by Prince Fari!
