to me dwight pinkney was the height of great guitar player and he knew/knows when to showboat and when to support. rarely with the former; often with the latter.

i am a fan of the crybaby wah wah pedal. so as long as it's used well, i dig it in any kind of music.
i am not into reggae with rock guitar...but the guitar lead/solo certainly has it's place just as keys and drums and vocals do.
i think, in my opinion, as a guitar player, that if a guitarist were to only play chords, then playing for a living might get a bit boring. electric guitars were also made to wail and cry at least a little bit.

I really don't mind rock guitar solo's in reggae so long as it is not over done. I think it gives the music interest and colour.
Remember that Bob hire al anderson because he wanted that Hendricks sound and to a very large extent it help to revolutionize reggae and bring it to the masses. So it has its place.
If reggae is going to stay, it must continue to evolve and the only way that can happen is to have artist and musicians continue to experiment like those in the past.
