Press/Re-Press Help...

Post by Matthew »

Greetings!

I've been away for a while but am back for a moment and finally cataloging my roots collection.

Need some help in determining what era these records where pressed in.
I'm not looking for record date just pressing/re-issue dates.

I'm 99.9% sure that none of them are original press.
I'm guessing 1990's or 2000's but I'd like to know exactly if someone out there has that info.

*I've included the actual covers & label info* I own to hopefully help narrow it down.

Please, if not exact year at least whether they are 80's, 90's, or 2000's...

Thanks! :)

a lot of these have been repressed more than once.
form instance that johnny osbourne could be 80s 90s 2000s. for studio one most of the time you can determine the press by the look of the label.

Yes Jumbo, the Osbourne is probably the tuffest.
At least we can rule out late 2000's on that one since they recently issued it with a different cover.

The rest are still a mystery...

Even Rob Chapman's **["Downbeat Special"](http://www.downbeat-special.co.uk/books.html)** book only mentions the original issue and the 1992 Heartbeat CD.

Incidentally, he puts the original issue year as 1980 as opposed to 1979.

That's just because the (Johnny Osbourne LP) Studio One presses are all the same, using an unique pair of stampers since (most probably) 1980. Later presses were not re-issues, but re-presses.

However, it's true that with later presses the stampers are used and tired. So early presses must sound better...

nicholas is right, try and find the one with the big red one on yellow label, that is the original 1980 NY press, later repressed on the regular'1Studio' label and that small Studio one logo (same like the 'big red one' , but much smaller and transparrant)

The label I have is white but **not** like this :
[cover=7443,648]

It is just white with the 1 at the top and a microphone.

I am pleased you said that as I did find one back in April. I assumed it was an original, but it is nice to have it verified.
