Is this three-fer any good?

Popped up on my recs list today. I've never listened to any of these three albums before. Worth buying for a tenner?

Is 'Rasta Dub 76' also part of one of those 'Evolution of Dub' boxes? I'm sure that I've heard it mentioned here in that context before...

My favourite of the three is “Agrovators Meets The Revolutioners At Channel One Studios” which is a heavy on the instrumental side with horns and nice simple dub embellishments. Instru-dub rather than pure dub, but a very relaxing enjoyable album.

Dub war is more of an 80’s sounding dub than 70’s it has spoken intros by some DJ who sounds like Pappa Tads (no idea who it is though) its mixed by Scientist but sounds like it might be early scientist its not quite got the trade mark heavy bass of his more famous releases

Rasta Dub 76 is a more traditional rootsie style of dubbing, with some very famous rhythms you’ll recognise for sure.

None of them are mind blowing but there all good and if you can get the three for £6.99 then I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Seems bizarre that the three are being sold so cheaply, which makes me wonder how legitimate the release is… but anyway most music is overpriced so I’m not going to worry about that.

Dub war is not an 80's (sounding) record, has heavy bass if you have the record, and was miced by Scientist at Tubby's for Bunny Lee....includes dubs to Horace Andy's "Jamaicqan National Heroes" and another tune off his L:P that I can't recall now..."Zion Gates". Was only released in Canada on Imperial as far as I know.

I've had all three a couple times each and I usually dish off all but the Dub War.

Na, you should stick around. I don't think that jordandance was trying to put you down for your opinion - at least it didn't look like that to me. He was just giving his.

You know how it is with reggae records - and how different the bass can sound from release to release, depending on who mastered it, or whether it was sourced from vinyl or the original master tapes (or even from C90 cassette... heh, I'll bet that they've had to resort to that for some of the more obscure CD reissues) and the equipment used. Even different pressings from the same label can sound markedly different.

Then there's the 'subjective experience' matter. What sounds 'heavy' and 'dread' to one person might sound 'weak' to the next man, depending on what else they like and where they're coming from.

I too get tired of the "rods of correction" who only seem to focus on pointing out errors (real or not). Let's share information, and help each other to be accurate...but we all love the music, right? All in the same boat to Zion. Nuff respect all round.

Please guys. All Jordandance did was pointing out that the record did not sound that 80's. Reading back his message, I'd say no harm was done. Gordon, I think you misinterpreted his message and in fact I'm with Jordandance when he notes that the album doesn't sound 80's. Most, if not all tracks are late 70's recordings. But hey, whatever really!
Marcus, read back your own post here and mine, and you'll see that WE (yes, me and you) are trying to be your 'rod of correction'.
At least Jordandance is sharing information, helping someone else to be accurate.

It's easy to misconstrue vibes on a forum. I have to admit I thought I might've caught some negative vibes off jordandance in the past too, but having been around here awhile now Im convinced I was just misconstruing stuff as he's shown himself to be an upstanding citizen of this board, in my opinion. Sometimes when you state something matter-of-factly on a forum it can come across negatively, when that's not the intention at all. I've sometimes read back some of my own posts and realized there could be some vibes construed there that I didn't intend as well.

That said, I always thought of Dub War as having an 80's sound, though I haven't heard it in a while. Though I should say very very early 80's as in exactly 1980. Maybe just because Scientist says 80's to me.

the revolutionaries set leaves me cold. on dub war it's just the dub to "Jamaican national heroes" which does it for me. Rasta dub 76 should be released with good sound quality, as imho it's a good dub lp like shalom dub (which also never was properly reissued with good dynamic ...)

i think this "evolution of dub" series died. i have the first 3 boxes and volume 4 (more an instrumental joe gibbs set) doesn't show up. also what kind of evolution is this without Pablo, Perry, Yabby U productions ? a kind of greensleeves evolution maybe .........
