Remembering The "King Cry Cry"

Post by kandi »

On September 15,1983,Prince Far I was gunned down.On this day i shall give him a continous spin starting with his final works 'Umkonto We Sizwe - Showcase album' and special request will be the most featured tune.I normally regard this tune and whole album as a 'fare thee well' album.

Love.

Yeah no doubt about the plain fact that Prince Fari was a great , humane, humorous vocalist, he was great at dub as well, as anyone that knows much of his work shall certainly acknowledge.Umkhonto is a great album.

I'll doing the same thing, Kandi. It's hard to believe that the "voice of thunder" has been gone for 26 years. I'll start by listening to Natty Farmyard (Studio One version), followed by Cricket Lovely Cricket and then follow with the albums, Under Heavy Manners and Message From The King.

I was listening to UHM last night and I'll probably be spinning Cry Tuff Dubs 1 and 3 later on...

I'm a bit burned out on Message From The King at the moment. Yaknow how you can listen to a great album too often, to the extent that it loses its effect on you?

For what it's worth, I always found 'Survival' from Umkonto We Sizwe to be the most eerily prophetic song he ever recorded...

I only have 'Free from Sin' so I'll be giving that a whirl. On a side note, I read about the 'Health and Strength' LP yesterday. Interresting story on how the master tapes got lost and all that is left is a personal cassette tape copy (from which the LP apparently is made). Wonder who has the master sitting around in the attic unknowingly. =)

Yes. The Prince, my favourite chanter.
He could be both FUNNY and DEADLY....
and always backed by the best musicians !

Give Thanks to DUB MATRIX for his brilliant site.
