Any River by Burning Spear - is there a dub version???

Post by dogen »

Any River is from the 1977 album Dry & Heavy released on Island records.

Check it out here:

There was also an earlier version recorded at Studio One.

Does anyone know if a dub version of either of these was cut?

Infinite gratitude if someone points me in the right direction.

Iv asked myself the same question but I dont think one was recorded. Door Peep, The Sun, Throw Down Your Arms dont seem to have dubs either(to my knowledge). The 'Living Dub' series hasn`t covered these recordings (again to my knowledge), if not then it`s about time.

Mixing Engineers: Barry O Hare, Nelson Miller Pls! one last big production: thick tribal dub, mirroring that of the 'Spear Burning dub`s or the Living Dubs 1 & 2 for deepness, 'versions' to Spear`s heaviest vocals. Those which have not been dubbed. Studio One years: Door Peep Shall Not Enter, Rocking Time, Ethiopians Live It Out, Down By The Riverside ect..

know where that rare 'The Sun 12"' can be found or maybe somebody can share this great rarity??

Seriously though hopefully mixing engineers or someone who deals with Spear personally or has contacts, that visits this forum can keep in mind of what I said above. It`s time for a rejuvenation of recordings that still yet to be dubbed. Spear`s Studio One, Dry & Heavy, Man In The Hills albums but (only the heaviest of vocal cuts from these albums).

I have seen it for sale only 1 time.. a real rarity ( If you need it I can give you a digital 'sample' of the record) you can also see 3 or 4 sold copies on popsike..

My guess is that lots of that stuff has been dubbed (by King Tubby and Jack Ruby ) but cut on acetate/dubplate only.
