"This is I Dread, Herbert Spliffington"
***bong hit***
"(indecipherable), it's a sonar boss(?)"

Very well done instrumental track from around 1975/1976 featuring Earl Bailey based on the original by Rupie Edwards himself.

Winston Blake i beleive was the owner of Merritone and i beleive his son is also a well known figure in the music production business in JA.
Wasn't Merritone one of the first ever independent record labels in JA?

Hi Trev,
both 7" originally from JA, the first on the JA-Success imprint credited to Soul King aka Earl Bailey feat. Rupie Edwards, second on RE label (owner R.E.) by Winston Blake.

The person " hitting the bong " is actually Sydney ( Sidy ) Bucknor . " Ah way I say...dis a soun` a boss "
The tune is based on the rhythm of " Buttoo " by The Concords . The trombone ( overdubbed at Dynamic Sounds in 1969 ) is played by Earl Bailey .
Taken from the liner notes of " Rupie`s Scorchers " - Trybute CD - TRRCD 05 . Well worth tracking down imo , featuring the first recording of Gregory Isaacs amongst others . BOSS .....
