Rocksteady-The Roots of Reggae
I saw this film yesterday and really enjoyed it.Old time something come back again. Was really impressed by Ken Boothe, still out there, and hitting the notes across the range.Loads of great scenes of reunion, loved the part where Derrick Morgan meets Hux And Scully in the old theatre yard.Definately a must see movie.anybody else seen it?

Re: Rocksteady-The Roots of Reggae
I went to the Brixton premiere. ( i thought Rock steady wouldn't be of interest here...)
Glossy, documentary style, like the Buenavista Social Club film (about 50s cuban music).Good film, very well filmed.
Great info for people not that aware of 60s jamaican music but hardly anything new for a knowledgable collector.
Bunny Lee and Niney were there. The grilled the director for not mentioning the producers!

Re: Rocksteady-The Roots of Reggae
Haven't seen the movie yet but I just added the soundtrack to our radio station's library. The soundtrack is pretty good. Nice collection of old standards- some sang by the original artist, some not. Of course, none of the tracks are quite as good as the originals but who can fault them for that? The singers and musicians all sound fantastic, though. Production suffers from being modern, if you know what I mean. Recorded at Tuff Gong, everything is crystal clear which is a credit to the engineers and equipment but the music loses something when everything is revealed, imo. Purely from an audiophile perspective, the album is mixed fantastically well.

Funny thing: each album added to our library requires a review and in my review I mentioned the Buena Vista similarities, too.
