Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I love how I can sit here in California and read the opinions of roots lovers across the globe. Respect to all of you. As you all have pointed out, there are some classic roots recordings from the mid to late 1980's. I don't shun all reggae from this time period, but I have had some bad experiences. I would rather get all of your opinions first rather than buying a record that I will never listen to a second time.
Some of you have mentioned albums by Michael Rose. I don't have any of his solo material. Which of his solo albums are considered his best?

I THINK THE BEST ALBUM WAS ON THE YEAR 1983 CAME FROM A AWESOME BAND THATS STILL PRESENT TODAY PRDOUCED BY LINVAL THOMPSON, BACKED BY ROOTS RADICS, AND RECORDED FROM THE LEGENDERY CHANNEL ONE STUDIO CAME THE MIGHTY VICEROYS AKA VOICEROYS, HOT TOPS AND INTERNS THE ULTRA RARE RECORD "BRETHREN AND SISTREN" DEEP HEAVY HARDCORE ROOTS FROM THAT ALBUM HEAR IT TO BELIEVE IT.

Fully agree with Ini Kamoze - Ini Kamoze and Jerusalem by Alpha Blondy. Greetings by Half Pint is another killer LP. Still in 1983 but a true classic: Aswad - Live and Direct.

One in a million by Half Pint is another great album from 1984, with Prince Jammy at the controls...and no sleng-teng yet, for those who don't like early-digit
