Sleng Teng originated from Eddie Cochran?

Post by nugs »

I recently heard that the Sleng Teng riddim was based off of Eddie Cochran's Somethin' Else? I can sort of hear a resemblance, is this a fact?

yes it was. the riff of 'something Else' was one of the pre-set rhtyhms in the Casio MT-40 music box.

slowed down, with some added drums overdubs, it became the sleng teng riddim

You can hear the similarity better on this clip:

Better still

But they weren't aware of the Eddie Cochran song itself, the only liked what they heard from the Casio (which had a riff based on the Cochran song as a "rock" pre-set).

It may seem like a slight distinction but an important one if The Cochran Estate is reading this!
