Spine-tingling moments...

I'm talking about specific stretches of specific songs: chord progressions, instrument solos, vocal harmonies, etc... the ones that give you goosebumps.

Give the minute/second(s), track name and specific release, so people can find it.

Here are a few examples of what I have in mind:

• the 15 second flute solo in "You Are Mine" by Alton Ellis (starts at 1:15) on the Keith Hudson Affair compilation album. Waaaaaaay to short.

• the climax at 1:50 of Throne of Blood by Prince Jammy off Kamikaze Dub. Just about perfect in every way—turn it up LOUD.

• 45 seconds into "Fussing and Fighting" by Marley & the Wailers—the vocals, especially the harmonies, get positively mystically beautiful (and stay that way).

• Barry Brown's lyrics and the instrumentation and melodies thru-out "A Big Big Pollution" (off "At King Tubby's Studio") are as good as it gets, and at 1:10 it's just perfect.

I was gonna try to pick out a specific part of Sticky Stay by the Wailing Souls, but I couldn't. Just had to give it a shout-out.

Big Youth : Hot Stock.
The part where the band fall in behind Leroy Libbles, as he answers "okay" to Big Youth question "how you feelin' Leroy?". Perfect timing! Sublime!

Aslo, in the song "Free Rhodesia", after Jack Ruby has introduced the horn section, those seconds waiting for "the man Tommy McCook, etc" to blast out the Rockfort Rock refrain! The anticipation. The pure excitement!

Carl Malcolm - Repatriation (Grove 12") - when the rhythm tracks get cut off and just Carl's vocal are heard and then the rhythm comes right back in the mix! It's so hard!

Burning Spears 1992 Living Dubs 1 & 2 - vocal & horn sections throughout, enough to give I the chills.

Good thread! Personally I get the goosebumps when the bass line changes occasionally in Prince Far I's "Psalm for David", and the bassline change that occurs at the end of the Garnett Silk dubplate "Make A Joyful Noise" that i mentioned in another thread.

tunes that do it for me, to name a few, jah is the way- israel vibration, old tattoo- culture, the wrong thing- the congos, yo-yo - the congos, gate of zion- ethiopians, to be loved by jah- ijahman, zion hut- ijahman, zion gates- culture, vision of redemption- fred locks, blackheart man- bunny wailers, babylon system- bob marley.
i think the feelings potrayed in songs like these are what makes them special to me.
