Uknown melodica dub need help Identifying ?

It cannot be from the 80s, there was no midi/pc riddims like that until later.
Sounds like recorded recently by a beginner at a home studio.

There was tons of digi dub around in the 80's what are you on about?

The first midi was made available in 1982, the first home computer to feature midi was the Atari Ste way back in 1985, I'd say it was made with a similar type of set up, then probably got a vinyl release. It just sounds like it's been copied from tape to tape a few times. It could also be a drum machine and an early sampler, sampling became popular around the late 80's.

Does sound like a nice piece, I wouldn't say it was amature, though if it is a home recording you'll likely never track it down.

I never said I didn't like it... I just said is not 80s.

In the 80s there was no "digi-dub", that's a later name.
We used drum machines (since around 84), sequencers and samplers straight into tape in real time. Midi wasn't used in general for this type of productions. First time I heard about it in a Reggae production was Steel Pulse and UB40, that was years before Steelie and Cleavie ( who were still going into tape in real time) or even Ariwa, Fashion, Dread and Fred, Shaka, Disciples and Manasseh. Ataris and Akai samplers started appearing in London reggae studios around 88-89 and by 92 everybody had an Atari (I still have 2 at home, 1 mega memory, those were the days!).
That's my personal experience from that time.

Drums sound indeed like Martin Campbell ( and that trademark Em - F*m over a slow tempo)...but I still reckon is an "still developing / up-an-coming" producer (who likes Martin Campbell and Augustus Pablo of course!).
If I'm wrong...I'm wrong.

Loads of dubplates with that type of sound around the UK from the 90s. It could be that?

Try the Blood&Fire forum. I'm sure that if it was a dubplate or regular release, they'll identify it over there. Loads of people into that.

thnx for the help and posting on blood and fire now i can go buy it the recording i made of it was from a cassette tape recording of a local radio station about 15 years ago.
