Hi RA massive.
Hoping someone here can help me identify a tune. It is the first tune played by the sound "Small Axe" in a 1984 session (find it here "Small Axe – Herbie’s Lawn, Greendale, Spanish Town, 1984" http://whocorkthedance.com/Oneaways.html ).
The MC introduces the singer as U U Maddo and the tune as "Gal Bad Over Night" however I am not sure this is the title - I have never seen a single by that name anyways. It is on the "Every Tongue Shall Tell" riddim.
Does anyone know this tune? Is it released?
Thanks

Wicked song! Never seen this one and I'm hunting records from both Osbert and Hugh Hugh. I'm wondering if it might be a dubplate?

Hi Kalcidis. Yeah I'm loving the song as well. The 80s cut of this riddim is great. I fear that you are right about this being a dubplate, a shame since that will be impossible to find. Perhaps I should send U U Maddo a message on Myspace and ask him about it.

Alright, I wrote a message to Mr. Maddo. I'll let you know what he replies.

Very interesting news. Hugh Maddo wrote back, here's a quote:
"I'm glad you let me know, in that year of 1983 or 1984 i did a Lp for Jammys which was recorded in Jammy's Recording Studio in Waterhouse ( Jamaica WI) and the engineer was Bobby Digital he was a very young at the time and that was one of the songs on the LP for Jammy's, that was the first and last time i heard the songs in jammy's studio,if you did not let me know i would'nt have know, you see i've always wondered what happen to those songs all the songs where written by me,and i dont know if they were ever release, but knowing what i know now that lp was release by jammys and i've got to check it out"
So apparently he did an entire LP worth of tunes at Jammy's. I have never seen let alone heard about this before. If the rest of the songs are anything like "Bad Over Night" this could be an amazing set. Anyone knows about this? I wonder if there's anything I can do now to find out more. Contact Jammy's/Bobby Digital maybe?

You probably should have told him that you have never actually seen, or heard of them being released, but only heard one song on a sound tape. He left that call thinking he is being ripped off, when it very well could have been just a dub plate, and thus a confrontation over nothing could be avoided.

That's exactly what I told him Davek; That I had heard a really nice song of his on said sound tape, and I hoped he could tell if it had ever been released or was a dubplate for the sound.

I guess being ripped-off is so common that it's almost a reflexive condition :^)
It'll be interesting to see what comes out of it. If more early Jammy's music got re-released, or un-released stuff finally sees the light of day, we would all be better off for it.
