King Tubby - Surrounded by the dreads - Unknown white wax press

Post by ton1 »

Hi there !
I just bought this LP by King Tubby and I cannot find any clue on what it is.
The record itself is white with some ligth spots of color in the wax so not strictly white.
The cover looks like the Studio 16 one :
[cover=1080,1242]
but is not exactly the same. On the back cover, you can find a text both in french and english. There is SABAM mention on the label which would make think it's a belgium press.
There is also a sticker "distributed by Blue Heaven" (first specialized reggae shop in Paris at the end of the 70's).
I'll try to upload pics later.
Any info welcome !

Probably a repress.
If I recall correctly, the original studio 16 release has a sleeve in white + red.
Anyway....it´s a nice and tuff dub set.
Enjoy this loud!

it's not the original press for sure but it's not recent, it's an early press from Belgium or Netherlands, xray says 1978 and I would say the same. Blue Heaven (the shop where it was originally bought) opened in 1979 and closed few years later (maybe 2 or 3, I should ask).

Blue Heaven moved from the Champs-Elysées where it was to Rue Chapon, where it's new name became Concrete Jungle.
I was once at Blue Heaven, just to receive the new address it was going to move.

In the mid to late seventies there were some european labels who licensed JA records (Soul Posters for example), Epic (Bag O Wire LP)...

No, it's not a live lp.

My copy has less color and has a more spotty design.
There is a green sticker on the front cover (coloured vinyl)

Nice album with a nice cut of "Come On Little Girl" (Tony Brevitt)

One Love
