it was a sort of wreckless movement in nyc spearheaded by groups like moldy peaches who used acoustic instrumentation as weapons against itself,lovingly. they're an alright group. anti folk was a sort of journo phrase for this kinda movement,a bit of fun i suppose but richman was knocking about pre-punk. some reckon he was proto-punk. modern lovers first lp is worth a listen

To this day J. Richman is a big fan of Jamaican music. I've been to his club the Make Out Room in the Mission District San Francisco many times and they host a weekly DJ night for all musics Jamaican. Love that place!

I remember reading in black echoes (that's how long ago) that earl zero was sueing jonathon richmond for pilfering his song.
If earl zero is now credited as a songwriter to the tune then he must have won his case, surely?
That would have been a hell of a result! Anyone out there remember patrick andy - just another night vs the rolling stones - just another night? Totally similar songs - patrick's on a reggae vibe and way by far the first tune to be released, he took up his case in america, and surprisingly lost. The case was on mainstream news about 1984-5
Oddly, sly and robbie played on both sessions.

Kalcidis; It could be Patrick Alley. I do know that it was a very long time ago, I'm very old now and I do have the song on a rodigan tape somewhere in the garage.
I remember very clearly though that when in court, the riddim twins didn't volunteer any info to help Patricks case.
I drop into the forum occasionly, so I possibly missed your thread about Patrick Alley/Andy. And there are a lot of pages to chase back through!

the loss wasnt very surprising, since the songs were not the same at all.

patrick Alley's attempt to get rich totally failed, because the songs werent simular in melody or lyrics, except for shareing the phrase 'Just another night with you' .
