Hey.
I wonder if anybody knows of any dub featuring fiddle or violin? I'm hoping to find some for my younger brother who's a violinist, I'm putting together a compilation of tunes for him which is mostly the earlier old time style dub, I've heard lots of strings being used as backing (like whole string sections) but not much solo/lead. so far I have found a few tracks by Prince Far I and "Toughest" by Prince Buster (Treasure dub two).
Does anyone know who the violinist was that Buster was using? and also if anyone knows of any adaptations of violin pieces such as "drunken sailor" or "fiddler on the roof" (Swing easy) please let me know.
Thanks.

I believe 'Toughest' on Treasure Dub vol. 2 is not Prince Buster, but a version of Alton Ellis & the Flames classic "Cry Tough,' yes?
According to David Katz, the violinist on Cry Tough is a someone called White Rum Raymond
Also, there's a nice version of Fiddler on the Roof (without fiddle) on this great LP:

There is a Japanese band, TUFF SESSION, which has the violin as the lead instrument. They do an instrumental version of PEOPLE GET READY but usually they sing in Japanese. You might find a Dub/remix of their stuff if you are really keen. Check YouTube for some sounds.

Yes, all good.
Very nice recommendations, thanks everyone!
I also found some older violin/fiddle threads here at Roots archive which yielded a few more titles. one by the twinkle brothers "Don't forget Africa", the seven inch has a b side "version" I would love to get my hands on this 7" for my little bro.
There's also a wicked LKJ tune called Licence Fi kill

There was once a reggae band called "The fiddlers" they did a tune called "Violin Rock" they appeared on a comp called Jamaican serenades Vol 44, does anybody know them?
