Conflict Dub – by who and how rare?

Post by ponderguy »

Conflict Dub – by who and how rare?

Just the other week a plain white label LP with the words ‘CONFLICT’ scribbled on it in biro sold for £697.77. I monitored the price during the auction and was astonished by the way the price continued to increase. I wondered why is worth so much and who would be willing to pay so much? Someone out there values it so I thought I’d better check it out just in case I was missing out on something!

I decided to do some research and come up with a hit on the dublp.roots-archives.com site. Here is an LP with the same matrix number [COLP 2006] which stated Bunny Lee was the producer. This page also included a sample from the album which is dub version of ‘Three Piece Suit’ in a style not too far from Trinity’s vocal version. After I bit more searching I came across the full album in mp3 on mediafire (a huge thanks to whoever uploaded it).

The album contains of number of standard reggae workouts with some great trumpet playing. Each track has the unmistakable drumming style of Sly and to my ears sounds like the Aggrovators. I’m sure with some from the forum all the tracks could be identified?

This leads to further questions such as, have these tracks been released before and how rare is it?

From Tapir's site;

COLP 2006 Agrovators - Rasta Dub 2000
Tracks: Jumping Dub / Skilful Dub / Ethiopian Dub / Still In Love Dub / And A Rootsy Dub // Can't Go On Without Dub / A Steppin Dub / A Rocking Dub / A Mighty Dub / And The Best
Blank label only
Produced by Bunny Lee

I assume the tracks are dubs of cuts taken from the following;

COLP 2001 - Leroy Smart - Ballistic Affair (1977)
COLP 2002 - Gregory Issacs – Extra Classic (1977)
COLP 2003 - Jackie Edwards - 20 Greatest Hits (1978)
COLP 2005 - Hortense Ellis & Derrick Morgan - Still in Love (1978)

The 'Still In Love Dub' track matches the track 4 on the mp3 album just fine so I think the info is spot on.

It's strange that RA have the other four Conflict albums but not this one?

Let’s hope the one sold went to a record label for digitalization and eventual re-release since it’s the only way I'm going to afford one!

It seems I have the same album. Here's a link to a previous thread.

I don't normally sell my records but maybe I might do if that is the value!

Maybe somebody can help me identifying another white label record by Bunny Lee/Aggrovators.

I only can say that matrix numbers are AA S 2A and AA S 2B.
And the year 1976 is handwritten on the plain white sleeve.
Each side has 5 tracks.

Anybody knows it?

Can you identify any of the tracks or riddims?

Rootsman,
I have to listen again, but generally I'm not the best in identifying where exactly I heard the same riddim before. Sometimes it even makes me crazy to search for a tune somewhere hidden in my shelf and locked in my memory.
But I think King Tubby should be involved.

Any chance you can make some tracks available so we can have a listen?
