Hey people,
I'm wondering what the first 45 to have "version" stamped on the flip was? This isn't a question about what the first Dub was(a much longer discussion no doubt...) simply the first instance of the term "Version" appearing in printed form. I'm assuming it'll be a Striker Lee production??...
Thanks!

Re: First Version?
I found a Studio One 7" inch "Mad Mad" & "Mad Version" by Alton Ellis but I'm not sure this re-issue. The original song "Mad Mad" was recorded in 67'.

Interesting-The Coxsone 7" also has "mad version" so that's gotta be a pretty early contender, any others??

Re: First Version?
i dont have many 7s from the late 60s, just a few that have 2 different songs on them. the earliest 7s i have with the word version on them are from 1970. double barrel/ double barrel version, cambodia / version etc.
i would have no idea when it was first used on original 7s, but i would have thought it was probably around 69 / 70. be interesting to know. good thread.
