Vinyl Junkies

Post by Rootsman at Work »

I guy on this site has put up his collection of 500+ non vinyl titles for sale and it has been considered lame without knowing the content.

Am I missing the point but I thought it was all about the music. Why are you vinyl junkies such snobs towards other formats. I would rather own a classic 70`s roots album on CD than a piece of 80s/90`s digital crap on vinyl.

If the format to you is more important than the quality of the music i`ll be willing to sell you my mum`s collection of original vinyl Carpenters releases. I`m sure you be more than willing to buy them at £100.00p each, after all the are originals.

To me its all about the music, doesn`t matter what format its in, if its good and I want it, i`ll take it however I can get it.

So why don`t all you vinyl only people out there accept that you are no better than us and stop looking down on people like me who are happy to own the music on CD.

Respect to all fomats.

Actually that dude was selling his entire reggae collection - in MP3 format. none of it was original, so yes that is quite lame..

I got no problem with CDs, since not everything was released on vinyl.

My personal goal as a reggae vinyl collector is to hear a sound that is closest to the source of the actual recording session. During every remastering, for better or for worse, the sound changes and may become further away from the sound the producer/engineer originally intended (even in the circumstance that it becomes more pleasing to our ears).

Listening to (non-digitally recorded) vinyl is a very addictive hobby. The continuous, maybe imperfect, sound adds to the mystique of the track being played and creates an atmosphere that is... more irie (can something be more irie or just irie?).

Sure, I recognize the importants of WAV, MP3 and other sound compression formats. And I would much rather have an album or track in these digital formats than none at all, but I would much rather have the orginal vinyl than the digital version.

So idealy.. I would like every original vinyl roots record. Since this is a rather impossible task, I'll settle for WAVs and MP3s and still live a happy life.

Just like Sergio619 and others I think the music is the important thing, doesn't matter what format I have a song in as long as I can play it and enjoy it. I have 30+ year old vinyl, audio cassettes that hiss like angry snakes, MP3's and all that other digikal stuff.

Strictyly Reggae Music I Mon Play...........

I like vinyl too, but more in the role of filling in holes in my collection that are not currently issued in other formats. Many people argue that you can't beat the sound of vinyl and while that may be true (and also up for debate), I can't see how someone could argue with the convenience and portability advantages of cd's and mp3's. I would be bummed to have my collection only in vinyl even if I could, as it would mean I'm stuck in my listening room with the record player and not able to enjoy the music where I want it. It's about tradeoffs, and I'll personally give up any perceived loss in quality to go mobile with still great sounding music!
