Technical question

Post by dontmake »

Greetings to each and everyone, i got a question about turntables, how important is the automatic function? , i am trying to buy a TT , and i had seen one , but the man that sell it, said to me that the automatic function isnt working, is better to search another one or this option is not very useful ( understanding that i am beginner in the vinyl world)

thanks to you!!

Ive no idea what "automatic function" is

is it maybe the thing when a record reaches the end, the arm automatically lifts up and returns to "base"?

If so, that function broke on my TT ages ago so all i can do is move the arm myself (the manual raise-lower thing works luckily), anyway its no big deal really unless you put a record on when you go to sleep or something otherwise it would wear out the stylus playing round the run out groove all night!

I am also a beginner in the vinyl world so have no idea what im talking about! So lets hope somone with actual knowledge will pop by soon!

Thanks for the anserw Klaus , by the "automatic function" the guy said me that is when you put "play" the TT automatically play the records, so if this is not working, you must move the needle ( or what you must move) manually by yourself. I dont know really if this is normal or its terrible, i am beginner lol.

Hope someone can help me, i must anserw the guy soon to buy the TT.

big up!!

hi there. ok my turntables are manual. this means i have to lift the 'arm' (with the needle/stylus) and place it on the record. when the record is finished i have to lift it off again. no problems.
automatic turntables, you press a button or lever or whatever, the arm lifts itself, moves across, lowers onto record, and when record is finished the arm lifts up again and returns to its starting point.
my opinion, if i had an automatic turntable, i dont think i'd actually use it as above. as i'm always moving the arm around anyway, playing a certain song twice, or maybe skipping a song etc. so it wouldnt matter to me personally if the 'automatic' was knackered. hope this helps.

Thanks for the anserw ital kemar, my last doubt is ¿how difficult is put the arm or needle in the right place so the song start at the right time?. This easy?

many thanks
