Heavy Roots Reggae
Which do u consider the most "heavy" deep roots reggae, I mean hard riddim, deep bass, etc.
ie. I think Over Hills And Valley of The Viceroys fits in this category, another example is Tyrone Taylor - Sufferation.
Horace Andy - Money Money, the Wackies one
What's your opinion?

Re: Heavy Roots Reggae
Thanks culture, those songs are near of what I'm looking for, maybe Barry Brown - No Wicked... & Burning - Jah Is My Driver are more, With "heavy" I mean "dense", hypnothic riddim, those u feel the bass, drums with high presence.
Take a look at this, to figure out what I'm trying to explain

Re: Heavy Roots Reggae
Thanks for suggestions. Is too hard to find the sound I'm looking for, everyone has his own perception of "heavy", "deep", "hypnotic"
BTW:
Rise in the strenght of Jah - The Viceroys
Samuel Mickle - Nab Them Natty Dread
Cool Breeze - Big Youth
Ronnie Davis - False Leaders
are the most I enjoyed.
I can add Augustus Pablo - Thunder Clap
Sylford Walker - Burn Babylon
Cheers

Re: Heavy Roots Reggae
Phew, nuff depth a gwaan...
To start with, I throw out some sista stylee -
Fabian - Prophecy
Sister Audrey - English Girl (Shaka in full effect)
and, then, from my yout'
Pernell Roberts - Black is the Best
Lion Youth - Rat a Cut Bottle
Roman Stewart - Rice n Peas
Wayne Jarrett - Holy Mount Zion (Wackies in full effect)
Peter Broggs - Jah Golden Throne
Pablo Gad - Hard Times
and then some Johnny Osbourne, such as Purify your Heart...
Followed by, the toons I have selected from 7s I have which have givenme rootsical feeling!
Johnny Clarke with Every Knee Shall Bow / Creation Rebel
Horace Andy - Man Next Door/ A Quiet Place
Keith Hudson - Riot
Jacob Miller - I'm Just a Dread
Slyford Walker - Jah Golden Pen
Junior Byles - Fade Away
Twinkle Brothers - Distant Drums
I also agree with many of the choices of earlier posters, there are so many heavy roots tunes to select, we need a full on blues to showcase all a' dem...
You have posed a most difficult question, and as so much depends on taste, that I am sure we all have alot to say on the topic.
Long may the sound live... so that mebbes some day soon, the yout' will discover the glory of this majestic music, and clear the grime from their nails!
