George Nooks/Prince Mohammed album question

Post by nugs »

Greetings, are all these albums inna DJ style? I love Prince Mohammed's DJing but I'm not that interested in his singing. I have Inna Him Head and it's all DJ, I'm assuming all of these are strictly DJ except Today seems like it's probably him singing.

1979

* African Roots
* No One Remember Africa

1979-82

* Bubbling

1981

* Today

"No One remembers Africa" is not strictly DJ style.

From memory he definately sings on at least one track, pretty sure "Moses Moses" is one.

He sings and dj's on No One Remembers Africa and IMO is one darn good album. I've spent the last couple decades trying to locate this album with no luck. I saw it on ebay a few times for big money. Furtunately I was Blessed and lucky to get a decent copy from a friend who was throwing out a lot of really good roots and dub classics. I said to myself "Are You Crazy, throwing away foundation roots is a crime", trying not to show my excitement in taking them off his hands for free. Also Prince Mohammed's 1979 Inna Him Head is all DJing style and is very good. I do like his all singing album (Today). He's a very good singer just like Trinity AKA Junior Brammer. They both show that they can transform from DJ to Singer successfully.

There is also a rare Prince Mohammed album on Hungry Town label.

It's stupidly rare, basically its the Hungry Town In Dub album with Nooks / Mohammed chanting over it, one track in particular, I think its Jah No Partial, is famous amongst older Shaka-ites, Shaka used to play a dubplate of it featuring very little of the Prince except for a dramatic moment when the music drops out and Mohammed's voice bursts through: "Rastafari!". It's one of those, y'know?

First: It's not a dubplate. The cut that can be heard on a recorded session is identical to the album track.

second: the album is rare because when the label went bankrupt all unsold copies were thrown in the garbage bin/destroyed.

The track is the same yes, but Shaka played it off a plate. And I know about the reason for it being rare, but rare it certainly is nevertheless.
