can anyone tell me why saskatchewan is mentioned a bunch in reggae?

kind of a strange place for islanders to relocate to.

He also mentions Cambodia, Rhodesia, Afghanistan and other locations in songs, but he didn't live in those places either.

Besides I-Roy's, what other songs mention Sasketchewan?

i honestly can't recall offhand what other songs...but i know i have heard it a number of times, including dillinger. maybe we never realized they were true ice hockey fanatics (ha).

I think Saskatchewan probably just sounded exotic and weird, so they worked it into a lyric. Can't imagine any reggae dudes wanting to spend time there in the 1970s when reggae was pretty much completely unknown in Canada except for Toronto.

can see it as a natural tour stop on their way to Van along with Calgary and Winnipeg...yeah, I think they were just enamoured with exotic-ness of the name. think it's an indigenous word...
