About 4-5 years back I picked up virtually all the "Blood and Fire" CD`s direct from there website and in most cases they were all under £10.00 with many less than a fiver.

This has to be one of the best investments I have made in reggae reissues (along side Pressure Sounds) as they look great with excellent liner notes and sound superb.

With the folding of the Blood and Fire label and the overall high quality of the CD package I can see the prices of these reissues rocketing to silly money.

By coincidence, I saw a copy of that Freedom Sounds CD going for €14.99, while out on my lunch break today. I tend to hold out and trawl the internet, rather than pay over the odds. For example, I tried for ages to get Sylvan White's Africans Unite CD. It ranged from €69 up to €85 for a second hand copy. One guy seemed to hike the price up by €5 everytime there was an enquiry. Eventually after about two years, I picked up a brand new copy from Reggae Fever, Switzerland for €13.30.
A further coincidence is that Sylvan White recorded for Bertram Brown's Freedom Sounds and appears on the dub CD mentioned.

Thats about what i paid for my first copy but this copy was a straight out of the wrapper copy instaed of like my first copy that had sat around gathering dust getting more and more secondhand by the day. But at my end of the planet you take what you can get most of the time the postage down here is as exspensive as some of the music i buy sometimes more but you get that at the end of the world.

downloading... is a good reason why is there such a thing as a rare cd? Any computer owner can make an unlimited amount of exact digital copy cd music and jacket. Basically make a a 99% duplicate very cheaply and easily . Just curios as to what cd buyers think of that? Yes i know the basic arguement of stealing is wrong. Is there another reason ?Am i wrong about being able to duplicate it?
If we could make vinyl at home I am sure the prices would drop drastically.

I agree where you are talking of a bog standard reissue. But in the case of Blood and Fire, Pressure Sounds and other good reissues the liner notes carry historical data on the music, artists, producers etc which make them almost as essential as the music.

Cannot reproduce this with downloaded music.

Bang on the money Rootsman thats why i pay sometimes quite good money for all the bits that go with the music a lot of times its a history lesson as well as very informative in letting you know about other music from same artists/producers and you cant have that on a bloody computer.
I am about to loose my job as a CD/DVD Music shop manager because the way the industry has been hit in NZ & all over the world by internet pirates and thats what they are theifs who justify thier actions by say well everyone else does it(Bullshit)It means pretty soon its all gonna be wall mart supermarket type music retailers that have no soul for the music who will be running the market soon sad but true. Now you cant have a conversation about how good a peice of music is or get decent reccomendations from a computer.

Do you guys consider it morally wrong to download CDs that have been out of print for years and are now only available from the guys who are selling second-hand copies (for which the artist/record label isn't going to get paid anything extra for anyway) for obscenely large amounts of money on eBay/Amazon Marketplace/GEMM/etc.?

Just curious as to what you think. Personally, I'm certainly not going to give someone £50+ for a CD that they may have bought only a couple of years back for £7 (or picked up at a car boot sale for 99p)...
