Gregory's "last recording" fake or not fake?

Post by Dudikowski »

Let me begin by saying that I am not out to trash anyones name. Personally I have collected all Isaacs albums since the early 80's. I'm a big fan to say the least.

I am just a curios soul and I know many of the members here know Gregory by heart and might be able to shed some light over this matter.

So...

I was reading about Gregory passing away a few days ago. I found a page where the Canadian dub producer Dubmatix spoke about his recording being the last with Gregory.

http://www.spinner.com/2010/10/25/grego ... es-reggae/

When I listen to this song I don't hear Gregory singing.
I hear a much younger voice trying to sound like Gregory.

So... what do you think?

1. I am wrong and there is nothing suspicious here

2. Dubmatix has been conned (but not by the don, hehe).
Maybe some "dub splicers" are to blame?

3. Is it Kevin Isaacs taking the mic because Gregory was too ill?

4. Something else?

Listen carefully preferably loud or with head phones and let me know what you think.

I am not out to drag any name in shame but I think it would be most fair for everyone if it could be decided if Gregory’s last recording really is his last or not.

From listening, it seems like Gregory, but the mix really tweaked the natural tone of his voice. At the beginning I thought it was a fake, but after listening to the whole thing it does seem like him; his voice seems to fade out like it has in his recent shows. We should dubmatix if he has pictures of that session...

The web didnt mention this as his last recording especifically. They say literally "One of his last recordings".

Sounds like Gregory, but several years younger.... maybe he had a good day the record day, or the mix changed his natural tone as alonsoreggae says.... who knows.... anyway, I like the tune!

Well, I never heard anything like this before.

The problems with Gregorys voice would have made it tempting to "improve" it before, but I never reacted like this since I heard my first Isaacs song 30 years ago. Sure, he had good and bad days but I never doubted if I listened to him or someone else.

Maybe it's not "the last" but one of the last - still interesting though to find out what's going on here.

Im listening again to it. The beginning of the song is really strange... The rest of the song is more Gregory, doesnt sound like Kevin Isaacs....

IMO this is an original Gregory voicing.

There are second voices in the chorus, changing the sound; with the strange intro and the mix work.... maybe its all this things together what makes us doubt.

The Dubmatix kids are legit, it's not a fake.

Their latest release also has guest vocalists Mighty Diamonds, Dennis Alcapone, U-Brown amongst others.
