I've had a lovely time reading all the posts in this section and I'm glad there are others out there that share the same interests.

I have a large collection of Nigerian Reggae music dating back to the early 70's. One thing though is that I am looking for album released by a group called SWEAT in the 80's.

Two of the Band members are Bobby Benson's kids and the album has tracks including Television Data and Shalewa.

I am currently working on a website that will have stories and music about Nigerian Artistes and Music with reggae influence so this blog will be of great help. (I will give credit where it is due. Please contact me if you have any spare time to help with this.

Cheers and One Love

I love so many of the stuff that I am reading here. Yes Reggae music in Nigeria dates back to the early 80s, but I have to say that before the likes of Bassey Black, The Doves, Aktion of Warri or Tera Kota, there was Joe Nez. I will say that Joe Nez is the pioneer of Jamiacan kind of reggea tune within the Nigeria music scene.
Though his music is classed a HIGHLIFE, but the whole tune is reggea. Please go and check out any of Joe Nez tunes, especially the album- LANDLADY.

I will like to know what happened to the 80s Nigerian reggae band called the FREEWORLD. They were two guys, I think they are from either from Anambra or Enugu and one of their best tunes is called PUNKY MORNING (Never gonna give up) and the lead singer is called Ammy Chik Igwilo. I really will like to know what happened to them.

Another guy I will like to know is a guy called Rastaman Jyke Ernest. I use to hang out with him, along with the likes of Oritz Wiliki then at Abitonia studio in lagos. He had this wicked album called FREE THE OPPRESSED, but sadly as it was then he lack promotional opportunities and this fantastic album went down unnoticed. I think the guy's real name is Ernest Ejike and I believe he comes from Amaifeke-Orlu in Imo state. Lots of talent but lack of finance, he never had a chance to showcase his great talent.

I am a revolusionalist of reggae music in Nigeria, I have made two hit reggae albums waiting for a deal with a maketer but this is almost imposible as the whole marketers in Nigeria prefare the junk music that is being made nowadays in Nigeria (so called dance hall) which I know is not in any way dance hall but beat dance, Songs that are not written before studion section but are made in the studio following beats and do not make any meanings, I am fraustrated over this but still trust in Jah to make my well penned down massages heard around the glob by providing me a record deal.

This system of having motor parts dealers market music in Alaba (Lagos Nigeria) has totally killed reggae music propergation in Nigeria, can some one who understands the importance of reggae music in the society pls come to rescue reggae in Nigeria

Hi Busola, the one you seek is Ben Okafor based in Europe and that song is from one of his hit album,a great one indeed. Believe me Nigeria's got legends in reggae some dead while some still alive. I respect legends like Sunny Okosuns, Tera kota, Evi Edna, The Mandators, Ras Kimono, Edward Inyang just to mention a few but in my opinion and despites all odds, Majek Fashek remains the undisputed King of Nigerian reggae...Jah bless!!
