How's his music? The only time I managed to hear something from him was on one various artists DVD.

It is really good stuff - I personally like it.
Roots with very little influences of Jamaican folk and a little bit Jazz. And then his rough voice - very listenable.
He sometimes is called the Jamaican Bob Dylan.

I had an LP by him which I was given for free. It's a painting on the cover and there's a rainbow coming from his guitar or something. Didn't give it too much listen to be honest. Felt like it was a bit too bland music. As often with reggae that incorporates a lot of other music styles it really doesn't have an expression of its own.
