recently been listening to Pure Ranking by Horace Andy and wondered if there is a dub companion to this l.p, or if any of the tracks were released with dub versions?
Also who were his backing band for this lp?
thanks

Re: pure ranking dub?
No Dub album counterpart as far as I know although I have heard dub versions to many of the riddims used on the album.
You can find the track "Pure Ranking" on here with extended dub

Hey Bellyman, do u know who is actually the mix engineer on CD2 of Horace Andy "King Tubby Tapes" ??
as I'm 99% sure its not King Tubby!! Doesnt even sound like tubbys studio, let alone his mixing fingers!!
Any info appreciated.....Bless Up

It's probably Prince Jammy mixed. The rhythms are Prince Jammy produced, three of them are also used on the Black Uhuru "Love Crisis" album.

Yeah i noticed several of the riddims are on Love Crisis, along with others, but doesnt even sound like Jammys either imho!!
check for instance Pure Ranking - no way is it Tubbs, Jammies or Scientist as each of them has there own distinct stylee of mixing, as does Tubbies studio have its own sound, I mean a Tubbs reverb is equalled by none to this day. And dub fans will agree with me on this.
I have a Jammys mix of Pure Ranking on the Sufferers Heights 12" (pure class may i add) and the mix on the CD2 just does not live up to any of these guys names....probably some apprentice engineer who Tubby gave some studio downtime to, thats just my thoughts...
I felt a little ripped off and a bit of anti-climax when i put CD2 in the machine.......havent played it since..

The Sufferers Heights dub of Pure Ranking is EPIC! Would LOVE to see a CD retrospective of that fantastic (and often unheard of!) label...

Re: pure ranking dub?
The dubs on `King Tubby Tapes` are all later mixes, probably done within a year of the cd`s release, certainly not contemporary with the time of thier recording.

These are new mixes of old tapes by an engineer named Newton, who works with Bunny Lee.
They aren't period mixes, but some are quite nice nonetheless.
