well i dont think he means to set the whole place and all his inhabitants on fire..but you seem to know him so maybe i´m wrong.
rome being more like a metaphor for imperialism, decadence, vanity and of course false religion. the pope claiming to be the voice of god on earth.. and who is more confrontated with that shit than the romans themselves.
