I was introduced to this kind of music from a guy named Michael L who has a radio show in Boston called Lovers HQ. At the time, he was writing a lovers rock column in a magazine called Boom which was financed by local selector and former record shop owner Junior Rodigan. I can't thank these guys enough because now, it's my favorite style of reggae.

I'd look out for the producer Gussie P. Another with a great sound is Frenchie, who for years worked at Fashion Records. Speaking of Fashion, they'll be a fine label to explore. Handel Tucker is a good producer of the day whose sound you might love. Of course Mad Professor will always be there to check out too. Hope this gives you some leads!

I too love the UK lovers rock sound. Along with the 70's - mid 80's dub & roots, Uk Lovers Rock is a big favorite of mine also. Mad Professors and Fashion Production got me started. Dennis Bovell's production is also top notch. I've noticed just about every 3 to 5 years or so, a compilation or so pops up. Anyone know what ever happened to all those fine UK Lovers Rock singers from the mid 80's to the 90's? I know they keep shows around the UK but why are they not recording and putting out CDs. I must admit I do see loads of classic singles on ebay though. Marfia and Fluxy are mostly producing Yard artist. A good DVD to check out is BRITISH LOVERS ROCK GALA AWARDS 2009 which I think is only available in the Pal format. And finally, one of the all time favorites, Sandra Cross recently put out a CD called Now on the Joe Frasier label. Raspect.

yes they did a good job.most of them especially the 80's ones are on vinyl and not being issued on cd except the famous artists.there were lots of obscure artists who did one or 2 songs then they faded away and the songs were really good..i do hear them on radio but the djs don't give any info..some appear on ebay some cheap some expensive.sad they are not put on cds..
i bought 3 LPs by mike anthony called back 4 good, short a nothing and natural on the gussie P label and the songs blew my mind..hope uncover them..

I too love the U.K. Lovers Rock genre! I was turned onto it by a dear friend of mine in Philly who is a bassie his whole life! It turned me into a U.K Lovers Rock fiend and now we try and find all we can with some artists being our favorites of course, but anyway it is great to see other folks on this forum love this sweet genre! Bless!

I've seen that stuff in bargain bins all over Europe ( 50 cent to 2 euro usually) shouldn't be very hard to get an interesting collection of that kind of stuff..

If you go to London for example.. In record stores there are often crates/bins on the floor. Below the premium priced stuff and they always contain lovers rock stuff..

I've been thinking about starting a very similar thread lately, so this is a nice surprise. Especially since I've been listening to the Reggae Rhythm Update show #27 (Ariwa Lovers Rock & Mad Professor Interview) a lot lately. Great show!

One thing I've been thinking about, since I like listening to sound tapes, is if there are any tapes out there with a more or less pure lovers selection. I've never seen or heard of such a tape, or a larger sound with that niche. Maybe because I haven't been searching properly, but anyway. I would appreciate if someone had any suggestions or general info on that.
