lol, wouldn't make a case for his defense but he's hardly unusual in music. working a peculiar talent is part and parcel of pop music.

and Dance Hall is pop music on steroids.

Does anyone know if Joe Lickshot ever released a solo album? That would be hilarious.

"In my opinion, his touretts-like outbursts completely ruined Early B's "New York Party"

Haha true...very, very true. I always end up skipping that track because he drives me nuts. But I have to say that he did ocassionally add something with his noises even in the studio, and I generally don't mind him at all on tapes. But you know...Dance and studio not the same.

He's really something you have to experience live for full effect, he comes across better on 15" and 18" stacks than on record.

I once saw a clash between Lickshot and Knockshot at a Youth Promotion session. Lickshot tried to go over the top with the loudest weaponry. When it was Knockshot's turn, he started singing a Foreigner pop tune that was popular at the time ("It's gonna take a little time....").

He mashed the place up, pure pandemonium. Knockshot was more creative, Lickshot more bombastic. Just my two cents.

I don't have lots of experience with the man, but in my opinion it takes away from the music more than it adds. I also don't like all the horns and other annoying noisy effects that people use. Maybe I just don't understand because I'm not Jamaican but it sounds more than just pointless, it sounds damn annoying imho!

Big up to Joe lickshot, nah lie I rate him.

For those of you who haven't had the experience of experiencing a sound show or clash live, its hard to explain. Casually visiting a few dances while being a better way to experience the music and culture still doesn't do much to explain it. Try to understand that most of us who remember those Sunday evenings when big dance a keep outta shop, and who not out dere cause dem too young an have school, lay in a vibrating bed wid dreams of growing up to be a DJ or selecta yourself.

While I can understand that it's still a sense of personal taste whether or not you like the sound effects that interrupt your music. You fellows must remember that to many Jamaicans growing up with the music, excluded studio recordings. Reggae music is a live experience and when your on di corner a whole a vibez and hear yuh favourtie wikid chune bus... Lets jus say a bare shot haffi lick.

As some one previously stated in the heat of the moment the selectas and surrounding crew have a duty to convey the vibes along with the artist. Its outta this experience that man like Joe (junglist) gain his notoriety, and love him or hate him the man had a distinctive voice and enough charisma in it to keep the vibes flowing, to where bout 40 years later we remember him. So bredda Joe mi still a lick shot fi yuh, and even though there soon come a time when those glory days of dance hall street life is just a memory(especially with the new noise abatement act and parties like Rae Town being one of the last survivors that now seems to be on the way out) its a memory that nuffa wi hold dear.

I haven't expirienced dancehall live, but I can say it is more like show business thing than a musical thing.

This is one of my favourites:
