He fought against the fascists in 1936 (they lost) but the fascists used poison gas.

ok that's a great point. but you know there is the bad point that we must not forget. his own people in his country suffered of malnutrition. we can't celebrate this man as a god or even as a great personality like ghandi, malcolm x, martin luther king and marcus garvey these people really sacrificed a lot.

Good argument but he exerted numerous efforts to modernize ethiopia for ethiopia's sake.

I dont get the point of some people here, like lalalaluoo. The thread name is clear and it dont pretends to discuss if His Majesty is God or not, it seems like there are some kind of people that are more into a disdain campaign than other thing.
They get so nervous and uncomfortable everytime someone talks about HIM.
I dont care a shit if you dont like Selassie but let others express openly what they want and try not to answer with boring quarrels, ok?

my intention is neither to bore you or to entertain you, I just tell you what I think about him or like you would say H.I.M. And by the way I am not especially talking to you. So if you feeling kind of bored it's your own problem not mine, seen?

If you want to get this personal, why dont you create a thread with the topic that really bothers you. Lets leave this people that only wants to conmemorate 113 years from Selassie I birthday.
Do you know what is a dictator? to be more especific, have you ever lived one? Because I did (my local Hitler ruled between 1973 to 1990, is it enough?)
Do you know what is to live with that kind of fear, where you cant go out after 8 pm because you can get a bullet in your head??
Do you know what is to have a state organization created with the only purpose to eliminate people of its own country?
And YES!! I get bored with childish arguments and expressions

No need to crush peoples spirits up in here. For the record, I wouldn't consider Selassie a dictator. It's a known fact that he helped modernize Ethiopia after taking the throne (wrote their first constitution, started literacy programs for the rural people). several sources I've read say he didn't act on the famine going on in his country because his inner circle kept the knowledge from him. Why that was done, whether thats true or not, I cannot tell you.
Happy Birthday to HIM, who brought hope to Africans all over the world.
