yes it was, sometime in 1972 for Randy's Impact label. it's my favorite version of the tune, then there is also a DJ cut off the same track by Delroy "Crutches" Jones that is pretty good as well.

One of my favourite versions is Leroy's recut for Gussie

the label on the video is not for this version, it actually comes from this great compilation

[cover=968,1116]

"The Right Track" is a Tommy McCook instrumental of the same riddim with killer flute.

Cornell Campbell performed this song live on stage with Horace Andy and Martin Campbell at the Trade Roots Reggae 25th anniversary show awhile back in san diego. it was the highlight of a great night of performances

The actual original is The Heptones "How Can I Leave." on Studio One. Dillinger also versioned it in a tune called "Jah Guiding Star."

How Can I Leave - The Heptones - Studio 1 (original)

other tracks on that rhythm that I would recommend are:

How Can I Leave - The Heptones (Studio 1) 7"
How Could You Leave - Freddie McGregor (Studio 1) 7"
How Could You Version - Freddie & Sound Dimension (Studio 1) 7"
Guiding Star - Dub Specialist (Studio 1) LP
Whoa Whoa - Jackie Mittoo (Studio 1) LP

My Guiding Star - The Heptones (Impact!) 7"
My Guiding Red - Augustus Pablo (Impact!) 7"
Kelly's Place - Crutches & The Heptones (Impact!) LP

My Guiding Star - Horace Andy (Jaguar) 7"
My Guiding Dub Version - The Aggrovators (Jaguar) 7"
Jah Is I Guiding Star - Tappa Zukie & The Aggrovators (Blood & Fire) CD
Guidance Dub - King Tubby & Friends (Blood & Fire) CD

Confusingly the brilliant 7" 'My Guiding Star' by Joe White (Coxsone) is not related rhythm wise or lyrically to the others listed above.
