my favourite compilation album is
"Cant Stop Us Now" Linval Thompson Productions
Roots Radics at their best.. all the top singers of the time..
i dont have to skip one song, only good tunes and absolute killers!
since it´s the same producer and backing band throughout, the songs match fine, real album feeling.

Along with the Phase One compilations and the Jimmy Radway compilation, already mentioned, I'd like to include, "Jack Ruby Presents The Black Foundation" and "The Reggae Train",(Sonia Pottinger).

dubisamust, you beat me by one minute! Special praise for the selections on that one because it's part of a 'non-reggae' series. Hard to find these days though.

Re: What is your favorite compilation album?
Seconded on that one. I think it gave people who were relatively new to reggae around that time a good example of what had been coming out in the previous 10 or so years. I've still got the original double vinyl and play it regularly.Sir Bellyas wrote:I think the best reggae compilation ever was Trojan's original Rebel Music, compiled by Dave Hendley circa 1979, a real revelation. The later revamp was arguably even better, but the original landed at the right time.

I always enjoyed Dub: Chill Out.
The Rockers sdtk is an excellent set especially for newcomers.
The Soul Jazz Rise of Jamaican Dancehall comps are great -- heck most of the Soul Jazz comps are excellent especially as Studio One primers.
I really enjoyed the King Kong set featuring Leslie Kong's early reggae productions. Not a bum song on that.
