Re: Eek A Mouse on Jail
This is why the whole affair with Eek A Mouse saddens me.
I have to agree that he made some killer dancehall anthems.
Wa Do Dem, Do You Remember, Ganja Smuggling, Mouse And The Man, Tell Them... the list goes on and on.
Let us not coat the man with tar and feathers just yet!
Furthermore, look how many artists have committed crimes and bounced back, especially from other genres of music.

Re: Eek A Mouse on Jail
In June of 2008 Eek exposed the music industry for slowly trying to take reggae away from Black/Jamaican people. He pretty much put on blast that groups like Soja, Ace of Base and other white reggae are popping up everywhere doing this black style of music without giving us credit. He explains how when these very light skinned reggae artist like Shaggy and Sean Paul get major deals while the darker skinned reggae artist like Eek, Sizzla, Beanie Man and other get shitty ass slave deals... He pretty much says the lighter skinned reggae artist getting major deals opens up the door for white reggae artist to get major deals off of black/reggae music and pretty soon you will have a generation of white kids that think Ace Of Base taught Steel Pulse.. Like how they think Elvis or The Rolling Stones birth rock and roll and give no credit to Muddy Waters and Jimi Hendrix.... Or how disco killed funk... A few months after the heated exposure they wanna tarnish his image! They do this shit all the time...

The reason shaggy and sean paul are 'popular' is that they play pop music (the fact that it has a reggae tinge makes it no more reggae than sleeping in your garage makes you a car)
They are "popular" because they are "pop" acts not because of some great white man conspiracy
Sizzla isn't a main stream pop artists because he doesn't perform mainstream pop
Bob Marley was a massive pop hit because he performed pop reggae No one outside of reggae circles has heard of Cornell Campbell, not because of race, but because he makes reggae music and not pop reggae music
It's just plain crazy to look at pop acts and claim a racist correlation, its barking mad.
There is racism in the world yes, but if there was some great white conspiracy keeping all black people out of the best music deals then how do you explain Michael Jackson, snoop dog... chirst there are so many massive mega rich Black artists its ludicrous to list them.
If Eek a Mouse wants to be a millionaire then he needs to abandon reggae and move into pop

Sometimes hardcore reggae fans told stupid things about Bob marley (Also on Blood and Fire Forum).
Just because he's an international artist ,he sold his soul and his music to Pop music to make some pop reggae. That's ridiculious,my friend!!
Sometimes I listen Jazz music ,I know some artists like Miles Davis,John Coltrane or Weather Report. But i thing i didn't know some bands that jazz fans consider as majors.
Do you consider Miles Davis as a jazz pop artist?
Cornell Campbell made some crappy music like Gregory Isaacs or Dennis Brown or some others artists(Delroy Wilson,Ken Boothe,Johnny Clarke,Horace Andy,John Holt,Big Youth ect..).
When i said crappy music , i mean in "roots reggae style"(and i can give some exemples if you want!)
I consider the wailers (1967-1973) are the best band in jamaica music(Melody/Creativity/Production _mostly with bob in lead vocal).
"Natty Dread","Rastaman vibration","Survival" and "Uprising" could be considered as some best albums in Jamaican music.
Do you really think if Bob didn't come to see Chris Blackwell in 1972 , Reggae would have been an international music?
Do you really thing Richard Branson ,without the sucess of Island Records , would have produced some reggae music?
ect ect...

Re: Eek A Mouse on Jail
exactly my point, it is only through flexing his music to make it more popular that Bob Marley became an international sensation. Without Bob Marley reggae would be a blip on the music scene
I watched a documentary I think was about Miles Davis and they said he flirted with Rock audiences and went to Rock festivals to try to increase his sales.
So my point is if you want to be a rich artist (black or White) you have to appeal to mass audiences not niche ones
It's not a racist conspiracy record producers don't care if their artists are Black or White all they care about is making money out of their artists

Not that I'm an Ace Of Base fan or anything, but I do remember reading that somewhere.unorthodoxconqueror wrote:on a side note, do you guys know that the bass player of ace of base used to be a neo-nazi, and played in a white power punk band?
Anyway, if he's since stopped with the Nazi shit and moved on with his life to do something more positive, then good for him.

Re: Eek A Mouse on Jail
It was quite big news here in Sweden (AoB being Swedes and all). I do think he's honest and sincere when saying that he has moved on from it. Of course the suspicion will always be there with former nazis but in a sense I could understand him. In Sweden there was quite large groups of racists and nazis in the mid to late 80's. Even up to the early 90's. And a lot of kids in the smaller cities and villages became a part of it just because of peer pressure. I had two friends that I'd play with as a kid and a couple of years later they'd be proper neo-nazis. Must have been very confusing for a lot of the youths who got pulled into that kind of thing.
When I first heard Ace of Base I really liked the music but since I was a hiphopper (I don't know if this term is even used outside of Sweden?) I could never admit it. I was eight years old then
I had a girlfriend (puppy love thing) and to be accepted by her friend I had to sing »All that she wants« to show that I knew the lyrics (and was worth her). Lovely times and also the end of my pointless stories.

Extremist political movements prey on the young, the angry and the gullible. Give them some answers that sound plausible as to what's wrong with the world, make them feel as though they're a part of something bigger, give them a sense of belonging - and then they'll be prepared to do things (usually violent) for the cause that the leaders either wouldn't do themselves, or would prefer to distance themselves from in public.
